Kick-starting your organisation’s climate action journey

Capacity Building

Rātā Foundation often hears from organisations we fund, that they want to do their bit for climate change, but it's not easy to know where to start.

  • Do you want to know how you can simply and effectively measure and reduce your organisation’s emissions?
  • Do you want to be better prepared for dealing with the effects of climate change?
  • Are you thinking about how small steps today can make a big difference to Aotearoa’s future?

In partnership with Terra Nova Foundation, Rātā Foundation is offering a FREE programme to support community organisations with the know-how and tools to start their climate journey. We are inviting expressions of interest in upcoming Canterbury, Nelson/Tasman and Marlborough dates (link below).

It is our intention to build knowledge and give you access to trial tools. This programme is independent of any current or future funding applications you have with us.

About the programme:

You will access support to take some simple, effective steps on your organisation’s resilience and climate journey - all at your own pace.

It begins with a 1.5 day workshop to kick things off. By the end of the workshop, you’ll have:

  • An understanding of resilience and climate change as it relates to your organisation’s context.
  • Explored how to go about developing a climate/environmental policy statement and resilience plan for your organisation.
  • A snapshot of your carbon footprint and access to Cogo, an easy-to-use tool to measure your progress on emissions reduction.
  • Clear, actionable next steps on your resilience and climate journey and free-to-use practical tools and templates.

We know that every organisation’s journey is different, so we have also planned for one-on-one expert support, that you can access when you need it until the end of 2025. This includes:

  • Access to a dedicated online community where you can connect with Terra Nova, other Rātā grantees and specialised partners. Ask questions, access resources and share your journey.
  • Support to measure your impact using a tool that will help communicate progress and results.

Cost: FREE, but you will need a laptop and access to your organisation’s Xero (or Kiwibank) account.

Registration: Express interest in participating here and the team at Terra Nova will be in touch to confirm and share further details. Workshop dates are also on this page. There are upcoming dates in Canterbury, as well as an opportunity for Nelson/Tasman and Marlborough-based organisations to express an interest in upcoming event dates in those regions.
