Mike Rutledge

Mike is a Marketing and Business Consultant with a strong passion for the environment.  His commitment to the Nelson Tasman region drives his work as Councillor for the Nelson City Council.

What motivated you to be involved with the Rātā Foundation Board?

I have seen first-hand the positive impact Rātā Foundation grants have had on the Nelson community. The Foundation’s ability to assist talented, passionate and committed people and community organisations to do great work is something I feel very fortunate to be able to contribute to.

What are you most passionate about supporting in the community?

Projects which promote active recreation opportunities and participation. I believe the value that participation in active recreation, by people of all ages, has on the individual, their community and society as a whole, is enormous.

I have a strong belief we have a responsibility to take care of, and improve where possible, our environment both for today, and for the generations which follow. As such I am very encouraged by the developing vision I see in organisations who are committed to taking a collaborative, long-term approach to conservation and biodiversity restoration.

What, to you, is one of Rātā Foundation’s greatest achievements and or projects?

The work done supporting the Nelson Cycle Trails Trust creates a legacy which current and future generations will reap the rewards of, both in terms of the benefits of active recreation and through economic development across the region.  The environmental partnerships Rātā Foundation are involved with take a long term view and are exciting.  Investing early in these types of projects is a positive strategic move which will see benefits for future generations.
