Link Pathway Trust
In 2003, local Linkwater residents developed a vision to create a series of pathways through public land in the Marlborough Sounds.
The initial aim was to allow locals a place to walk off the side of the road and to allow children to walk or bike to school safely. After ten years, some 27,000 volunteer hours have gone into the project, constructing 10 kilometres of pathway, with 80% of the remaining 32 kilometres under survey, inspection or construction.
Plans are now afoot to open up the 150 year old abandoned bridle trail which extends for most of the route between Picton and Ngakuta Bay, approximately 10 kilometres, with appropriate new access points at either end. By working on this particular section of the trail, Linkwater Pathways Trust will be able to bring the abandoned bridle trail up to "Day Walk" standard. This is in line with their existing DOC Management Agreement.
